In the course of his visit to Sana’a from 8th to 13th February 2007, Dr. Gamal Hamid held a meeting with Mr.Amin Juma’an, Secretary General of the Municipal Council, Deputy Mayor of Sana’a. The meeting was attended by the Director of Social Services for Sana’a; by Dr. Arwa Al- Amri, Coordinator of the bilateral projects undertaken by Sana’a Municipality and the CPI, as well as Mr. Essam Al –Fadli, Advisor of the Child Labour Project at Sana’a Municipality. The meeting focused on the means of implementing the bilateral memorandum signed by Sana’a Municipality and the CPI, as well as the details of the work plan for implementing the MoU. Mr.Juma’an appreciated CPI's cooperation with Sana’a Municipality and conveyed his commitment to facilitate implementation of the work plan.
Dr. Hamid held another meeting with Dr. Nafisa Al-Jaifi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in which they discussed the role of the Council in the implementation of the Sana'a – CPI MoU and work plan. Dr. Nafisa made a number of interesting comments and proposals, and confirmed the Council's commitment to assist in implementation of the MoU.
Dr. Hamid also met with Mr. Khaled Al-Jabari, Coordinator of the remedial education project for school drop-outs, the aim of which was to bring those children back to school, by means of a flexible educational programme that would take into consideration the specificities of those children. The latter project is sponsored by UNESCO, and the Ministry of Education of Yemen. The pilot phase of the project is expected to be implemented in three districts of Sana’a Municipality. This phase would be financed, in part, through the CPI and Sana’a Municipality MoU, according to which the CPI will allocate an amount of $ 30,000.
Dr. Hamid also met with Ms. Jamila Raja'a, National Program Manager for the ILO-sponsored International Program on the Elimination of Child Labour. It was agreed that the CPI will allocate $ 40,000 to support several components of the Child Labour Project in Sana'a, within the framework of its support to Sana'a Municipality under the MoU.
