As part of its support to Sana’a Municipality under the Memorandum of Understanding between AUDI/CPI and SM, the CPI Director, Dr. Gamal Hamid, participated in a ceremony to hand over sports and cultural supplies to a select group of institutions in Sana’a. The ceremony was held on 11th November 2007 in Al-Ahli Sports Club, and was inaugurated by Mr. Mo'amar Al-Ariani, first under-secretary of the ministry of youth and sports, and Mr. Amin Juma’an, deputy mayor of Sana’a and secretary general of its local council, and Ms. Naseem Al-Maliki, Coordinator of Sana'a's Child Protection Initiative program.
Five institutions, including sports clubs, the Yemeni scouts’ organization, and the orphan children’s home received in-kind support in the form of library books, computers, DVD players, television sets, video cassette recorders, balls, nets, and table tennis equipment. These institutions have signed agreements with Sana’a Child Protection Initiative to make them accessible to children, particularly disadvantaged ones. Prior to that, the Sana’a Child Protection Initiative surveyed the facilities of potential partner institutions and determined in consultation with them their actual needs. Utilization of this in-kind support, and the accessibility of at-risk children to it, will be assessed regularly by the Initiative.
