Under the patronage of H.R.H. Prince Meta’ab bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Saudi Arabia, The CPI/AUDI, in collaboration with AGFUND and Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs/Eastern Region Municipality, organized a symposium entitled: "The Role of Cities and Municipalities in Responding to the Needs of Children and Young People in Saudi Cities" held in the Eastern Region during 20-22 February 2006.
The symposium was intended to raise awareness about the key roles of municipal leaders in addressing the needs of children and to share with them successful experiences from other regions of the world
The symposium was attended by about 250 men and women, including municipal leaders, relevant government agencies, children and young people, NGOs, and the media. It was addressed by renowned speakers from the World Bank, UNICEF, Greater London Authority, the International Institute for the Urban Environment, and other regional experts. It concluded with a list of recommendations and practical steps for satisfying children's rights and needs in Saudi cities
