The Steering Committee of Sana’a’s Child Protection Initiative met on 27th February 2008 at Sana’a Municipality’s H.Q. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Amin Juma’an, Deputy Mayor of Sana’a and Secretary General of its Local Council.
The meeting reviewed the progress achieved during August 2007 to February 2008 in implementation of Sana’a CPI programs. Ms. Naseem Al-Maliki, Coordinator of Sana’a’s CPI, presented a report that highlighted the program’s achievements, opportunities and challenges. Among the key recommendations of the meeting are: (i) to devote a separate meeting to review the Sana’a Municipality childhood action plan prepared by a national consultant; (ii) to devote a separate follow-up meeting to discuss the proposed municipality-wide child protection mechanism; (iii) to pursue with Sana’a Municipality suggested measures to ensure the institutionalization and sustainability of the CPI program; and (iv) to reach out to potential partners and donors – namely the Social Fund for Development, private enterprises, UNICEF, Al-Salih Foundation, etc.
Dr. Gamal Hamid, MENA CPI Director, co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by 21 Steering Committee members representing Sana’a Municipality, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor; international development agencies, viz. UNICEF, IPEC, Enfants du Monde; national NGOs, such as Al-Salih Foundation, SOUL, Shawthab, etc.
